Why? because I can

Children throughout the world, all find they need to know one thing, why? After six months of asking this question they often stop asking it because parents learn ways of quieting their ofspring. Why? because I said so. Why? Because it just is. Why? just because. When I opened a resraurant and tea house Idiscovered that holiday makers often wanted to strike up a conversation. The most frequently asked question of course is "where is the toilet?", but after that people want to know why you moved here, and has it worked out well for you. They often pre-empt this with "how long have you been here" or "why did you choose Pontivy", but you know the real question will follow.
Basically people are left wondering would they move to France and could it work for them. French customers ask too. They want reassurance that actually France must be OK because people prefer it to their own country. I was told once, by a Bretton, that there was no need to visit any other part of the world. Obviously if all nations want to live here it must be the best place in the world to live. I have to admit that I frequently answer the "why did you move to France" question, with the comment "a conbination of madness and ignorance"! Certainly ignorance was involved. However much you research it you will not realise how vulnerable and how issolated you are in a foreign country. I researched the tax system, but simply could not believe what I was reading. "It just couldn't be as bad as that", I said. Oh yes it could!!!! The final question I am asked is "do you regret coming". This is again of course a searching for reassurance, but here I can absolutely confirm, "no"; It has been a wonderful experience. Not all of it has been good, and most of it has not been easy but what a thrill to feel that you have done what other dream of doing, and have not only survived, but succeded; So why? because I can! |
