Time passes, slow slow quick quick slow.

Time is a strange thing. We all know that it goes faster or slower according to what we are doing, that the last ten minutes in bed in the morning go quicker than the last ten minutes at work on a Friday afternoon. We know that a year when we were a child was a life time compared to a year now. But what constitutes wasted time? My partner died at sixty. He believed he would die young. He actually believed he would die at sixty. He said many wise things in his last few weeks, which I will treasure, but he didn’t need to say “live every day as if it were your last”. Even he however had long periods where life just went on as normal. He had done a bunjy jump, and been snorkeling, travelled and bought a holiday home to leave to his son. He had done pretty much all he wanted to do. At the end he was happy just to go for a walk, to drink a cup of tea, or to sit in the sun. Now I find I spend so much time doing nothing. Doing nothing with someone doesn’t seem to me to be a waste of time, but doing nothing alone. I have been told I am in a waiting period, and soon things will move forward again. Why? Why do I need to wait? I want to find new friends, climb a mountain, see Africa, not all of it of course but just a bit would be good, see anywhere. If anyone else was going to see my bedroom there’d be a reason to tidy it, but really there isn’t. I could tidy the kitchen, but that can wait till tomorrow. I’m waiting. I don’t want to wait. The time is going too slowly. How can I fast forward?
