The head or The Heart

I read an article recently that explained that the heart cannot lie. The heart react faster than the brain. The brain can rationalise analize and form an answer suitable for the moment. The heart reacts instantly. That is how lie detectors work.
The brain of the other hand has formed thought patterns and recommends behavioural patterns based on past experience that may or may not be helpful. I recently lost my partner. He was only sixty and we had planned to live the rest of our lives together. I had not antisipated that his would be so short. I've done most of my crying. I don't want to be alone in my old age, so, though no one will replace Dave, I am searching for another Mr. right. Someone once said to me, "if you can't be with Mr. Right, be with Mr. Right-now." I know that's dangerous teritory, but Dave wasn't Mr. Right when I first met him, and maybe there is the perfect one out there, that I will not meet without a bit of effort. I started a singles group. I run a tea shop and restaurant in Pontivy central Brittany, so we meet here. Also a way of drumming up custom. A week ago I had contact with a man who asked to be on my mailing list. He mentioned he was a widow. I mentioned I was a widower, and he asked me out for a drink. After exchanging a couple more emails, he obviously got cold feet. He refered to the TV program Dragons Den and said "I'm out'. I was so, so angry. I wanted to object to being played like a game. In went to bed and ate so much chocolate I felt sick! I couldn't sleep, and when eventually I did sleep I woke still angry and hurt. Oh how I wanted to reply to that last email, but what would be the result of that be? He would reply and upset me all over again. No I cannot follow my heart. My head says "leave well alone". So I will! |
