Single again

When my husband left me for a younger woman, I found there were things I could do without him that I could not have done when he was there. I could eat biscuits in bed, and I could fart. I could fart anywhere in the house but the experience of farting in bed was particularly satisfying. I could paint all night and sleep all day. I could eat what I wanted, when I wanted. In fact, when I was feeling positive, it had to be admitted, it was quite liberating. When I met my partner he felt I had never truly learnt to be naughty. He taught my we could eat toast in bed, or double egg and chips in bed watching a video. He said I could eat chocolates till I felt sick if I wanted too. He always stopped before he felt sick but when he told me I didn’t have too, I didn’t. He taught me I could eat a whole tub of ice-cream on my own if I wanted to, come to think of it, much of what I learnt from him was food related.
He also taught me to walk in the sun, to watch birds, to listen to the waterfall, and always to hold his hand. My partner died just before Christmas. It was an aneurism. There was no warning. I can fart in bed again now.
I’ve eaten a whole tub of ice-cream and biscuits in bed, but the other things, the video, the egg and chips, the chocolate, they re just not happy things any more, but when I walk in the sun, I hold his hand.
