Computor games time wasters?

By Hilary Preece of Tranquility

I have done nothing the last few days. I have become totally addicted to a game I found on facebook. It's called bouncing balls. I don't usually bother with computor games but I had nothing much to do so I tried it. When I say I had nothing much to do I meant nothing really urgant. There is always tomorrow to clean out the fridge, do the ironing, the washing and the washing up!

The idea of the game is to shoot a coloured ball at other coloured balls. If you his a group of three or more of the same colour they are cleared from the screen. The idea of course is to clear the screen. There are varying levels getting progressively harder, with more colours.

I live in Brittany at present, in a lovely medieval town called Pontivy. I came here to open and run a small English teahouse. The Bretton people are very traditional, and I have very little hope of appealing to them. I get Parisians who think the place is fantastic, but mainly I am dependant on the expat trade, and tourism.

I don't intend to stay here for ever. It's a bad idea to live alone and grow old in a foreign country. I would have considered it with my partner, but he died just before Christmas. Also, now I have a grandchild. I need family. The big question is, when to make the move? I have been told that if you want to sell you should put your property on the market at least two years before you want to go. I know it's important not to leave it too late. You need energy to move, and even more to start a new life and make new friends. On the other hand, I have only just learnt the ropes here. Next year I will be on a tax system, through which I might actually make a little money. So far everything has been a struggle. I still want to prove I can make good here.

I've done very little these last three weeks. It's Easter. There should be tourists about. The expats have no money either. The town is like a ghost town. I've played bouncing ball. I am the champion anongst my facebook friends. It's not that I've learnt nothing. I've learnt that at the early levels you can suceed by hitting the colours nearest to the target and mathodically working backwards. On the higher levels this doesn't work. It's necessary to forge a path towards the back, and try and hit things as far away as possible. You have to think ahead. A long way ahead.

I've done very little the last three weeks except hit balls and realise you have to think ahead. Tomorrow I am going to the estate agents to make an appointment.
