Chips

I got chips tonight. I'm not s'posed to have chips. I'm s'posed to be slimming, but I'd gone to the Hotel bar and had two very nice glasses of wine. It always makes you hungry when you're a bit tipsey. I knew that. That's why I'd eaten before going, so I wouldn't want anything else, but it didn't make any difference. I still got the chips. It was only a small portion. We always used to get large. "two large portions of chips please". I often wondered if we should get one large and one small, but I never did. There are two places to get chips in Pontivy. They are both kabab shops. One mixes in chips cooked previosly and not used, the other cooks to order. If the best one was closed we didn't go to the other one. Sometimes Dave went and got the chips and I went home and did the eggs. Then he would come home and say, "I think he likes me. He always gives me big portions." Mostly we went together. The guy always shook our hands and smiled like we were regular customers, but we didn't go that ofter. For a long time I couldn't go on my own. I went tonight though. I wondered why he didn't ask after Dave; probably because he was afraid. I wanted to say "He died. He didn't leave me. I loved him. He loved me. He died that's all, he didn't leave me," but instead I just said "one small portion please, and as they cooked there was silence.
